We recently had our 2011 Fall Symposium - and once again it was agreat success thanks to our wonderful participants in the panel discussion and our guest speaker Ms. Caroline Kirkman, Vice President Physician Recruitment at HCA, who gave an excellent presentation about "Finding the Right Practice and Signing the Right Contract". Our gratitudes go to all who helped to organize this event. Thanks a lot to our host Franklin Square Hospital! As always Dr. Saeed Khan was present and shot many great photos which we share below. He is now, well deserved, a 'Member of Honor' in the ACP-WIM Board - Congratulations to him and thanks for a job well done. Just click on the thumbnail icons for the Lightbox image viewer to be opened. The photos are also available at a higher resolution - conveniently packed together in a zip-file for easy download.
On October 2nd 2010 we had a wonderful time at Kernan Hospital with delightful speakers, engaged audience, beautiful surrounding and a delicious lunch. Our topic turned out to be exactly what people really wanted to hear about: Are there gender, racial and ethic differences in communication between healthcare providers and patients? How do we approach difficult conversations with our patients? We had four great guest speakers: Dr. Debra Roter started with the presentation 'Gender and Medical Communication'. Without doubt a really hot topic. Dr. Mary Catherine Beach followed with 'Race, Ethnicity and the Patient-Physician Relationship'. Equally informative and enthusiastic as the first speaker. After the break Dr. Chris Kearney and Ms. Rene Mayo engaged the audience with the talk and role-play in 'We are working for you - Approaches to Difficult Conversations with your patients'. If you want to learn more about the content feel free to look at the three PowerPoint presentations provided as downloads and Flash Versions. Thanks again for our speakers who graciously allowed the material to be placed here. A big 'Thank You!' also goes to Kernan Hospital for their outstanding hospitality! Last but not least we are very happy that Dr. Saeed Khan (as usual) provided us with the beautiful pictures shown below.
